Lucky

My son was hanging out with me here at the office today. He likes to play on the computer while he's here. So I'm sitting in my chair across the room and he suddenly yells out "I found a dollar!"

Come to find out he had not just one but three dollars in his pocket that he didn't know about.

He's only four.

Why can't this happen to me?

Celebrate

Last night we celebrated my dad's 60th birthday. Wow, can he be 60 already? How old does that make me? Never mind.

But we combined it by celebrating Mary's birthday too. Now who is Mary? Well she just happens to be the wife of my former youth pastor. Yep, she and her husband had a big part in who I am today. So it was cool to celebrate Mary's -0th birthday. I don't know if I should put the first number or not....well, it's not a 3 and it's not a 5 but somewhere in between the two.

So here are some pics from last night:

First is a picture of the two birthday people:

And we surprised my dad with a brand new iPod Nano.

Happy Birthday!

Another Good Day

I had another good day off hanging out with my son yesterday. I think I talk about those days a lot here, but I have to admit, as my kids get older those days really are important to me.

It started with us heading to Best Buy to pick up Mario Kart for the Wii. And we spent a lot of time playing it later in the day!

I've also given my son a lot of direction and wisdom through the years. Here he is with his choice of computer:

I've taught him well.

I ended the day with my daughter at softball practice. I must say, she's quite the player. (Just like her dad.)

Well, enough for today, I need to finish up work and then we're celebrating my dad's 60 birthday tonight.

Which Superhero are you?

So as you know I really like superheroes. I can't wait for all of the movies that are coming out this summer. Anyway, here is an interesting survey you can take to find out which superhero you are. (Click here for the survey.)

And there are no surprises in my results, well maybe I'm just a little scared at how high Supergirl made my list:

Your results:
You are Superman

You are mild-mannered, good,
strong and you love to help others.

Superman

80%
The Flash
60%
Green Lantern
55%
Supergirl
52%
Iron Man
50%
Robin
42%
Spider-Man
40%
Wonder Woman
37%
Hulk
35%

I've always thought of myself as a "super guy."

District Council

Well, we've been at District Council all week up in Kansas City. The blog has been quiet since I've left, but if you really want to keep up with me all the time check out this.

Anyway, we had a great week but it's good to be home.

It was great to hang out with the staff all week. Those types of trips are always good. We rented a 15 passenger van and all piled in to ride together. We got to hear some good messages from Dick Foth, Mark Batterson and even our District Supt. Terry Yancy.

That's all for now. I'm tired and it's time for us to go eat dinner. (My kids missed each other so much they're already fighting!)

Baseball Game

Today was a beautiful day outside. Mid 70's and really no wind. Hardly a cloud in the sky. You're thinking great day for me to be on the golf course right?

Nope. Not today. Wichita State Shocker Game instead. Ranked 5th in the country I think.

It was a great time hanging out with some men from our church. I rode with my dad....felt like a kid again.

They lost, but that's not all. Look what my dad caught:

Wow, he can still move.

Here's what I got:

Sunburn on the left side of my face. Cool.

My kids get to share the ball. I get to keep the sunburn.

Nice.

Afternoon at the Y

So this morning I didn't feel so well so I didn't go to the Y to work out at my normal time. Usually I'm there between 6 AM and 8 AM. It's not really that crowded and I'm getting used to the people that are there. But this morning I didn't go to the Y because last night was pretty rough for me. I don't know if it was something I ate or what but I didn't sleep all too well. My stomach was cramping for several hours. Not fun.

Anyway, let's get back to the story of the Y. I decided to stop by there on my way home after work to get a quick workout in. I knew that it would be a little more full at 4:15 in the afternoon. So I head up to the weight area and try to get started with my workout. Looking around I have to decide what I'm going to start with since there are a lot of people there.

So now to the point of this post. I really don't like the guys that think the entire weight area is there for their personal circuit. I don't mind if a guy is doing some circuit training when the place is pretty empty but in the middle of the afternoon? Come on.

I watched this one guy run around like he was going crazy checking his watch going from about a million different machines. Each time he would break into someone's set on the machine he wanted. So he'd take their weight off and put something that he wanted back on. Then he would do his set and run to the next machine. Each time he'd come back to interrupt the person that was still on the machine.

That just bugs me. I was waiting for him to come around me but he never did. He just kept running around, looking at his watch and doing his sets. And the funny thing is every time he interrupted someone else HE looked annoyed. Like these people were on his personal machine or something.

Ok, enough of this rant.

My creative son

My boy is a genius and he's only 4. Yep you heard that right he's a creative genius. How do I know this you ask? Well I'll just give you a glimpse into why.

My son is really into games. But not the normal boring board games or normal boring card games or even the normal boring sports games that you and I would play. He is really into "Caden Games." My son has singlehandedly created about a million games over the past few years. Each day when I get home he'll ask me to play some of his games with him. He's done so many that Crystal and I started talking to each other that we should be writing these down.

All day every day he's looking for someone to play his game with. And you may think you recognize the cards and you may think you remember the game, but no, in reality you're on to a new game. And you may have to endure some changes to the rules while in the middle of a game! But that's ok. It's just great to sit and watch him explain his new game to you.

And another thing, he usually wins.

I just wish I still had that type of creativity today.

House Stuff

Well after close to a year in our house we've finally had a new sliding door put in. That was one of the things that we negotiated back when we purchased the house. (Either we like to study what we're buying or we're just slow.)

But last week our new door was finally put in. The "Door Man" thought my family was kind of weird because we were so excited to have a screen! "You mean we can open the glass door and let the breeze come in? and Wow, a screen!" were just a few of the phrases he heard us say.

So I took a picture of the big opening before the door was put in.

So now we just stand in the dining room and look out our great new door.

But the bad news is, we found the wood rot that had been hiding. So now I'm not so excited.

Shout to the Lord

Many of you watched Idol gives back a few nights ago and saw the Top 8 sing the song "Shout to the Lord." (If you missed it, just check out the post below this one and you can see the video.) But it seems the song wasn't without controversy. The changed the first line of the song from "My Jesus, My Savior" to "My Shepherd, My Savior." And I've heard from several people and seen several places on the internet where people couldn't believe they took the name of Jesus out of the song. I have to admit that I was so in shock that they were even singing the song that the change in lyrics didn't really bother me. I just couldn't believe they were singing a worship song! I was thinking to myself that millions of people were watching this and hopefully were going to be impacted in some way by the song.

So it seems that they did the song again last night at the elimination show and guess what? The first line was unchanged. So for everyone out there that was upset, they put the name of Jesus back in the song. So check out the performance here:

You can also support some good causes by downloading the song through iTunes.

Idol Gives Back

I watched Idol Gives Back last night and was really impressed with several of the song choices. I guess it's just encouraging and amazing to see so many people get involved in something so positive.

I must admit right away that I didn't watch some of the musical performances. I had the show on my DVR and I skipped through most of the night.

But, Carrie Underwood's cover of Praying for Time was simply amazing. I sat there just stunned while she sang. I almost didn't even recognize the song. She truly is talented.

And it was cool to see the top 8 close the show with Shout to the Lord. I have to say I was a little shocked to see that performance.

And something that was really important to me, after praying and thinking during the show, I want to give back too. I've been giving in different areas but it's time for me to give BIG. It's time for me to take some of the money I've kept for me and give it away. I think that's why God has blessed me, so I can make a difference.

What about you? Do you want to give BIG?

Fantastic Finish

I know, I need to move on, the game happened Monday night. But we're still excited about the first Jayhawk Championship in 20 years! It's been a long time. (And I know, I look a little crazy in the picture too.)

So this week it's all about the Jayhawks! Rock Chalk Championship!

Just one more thing...what's with Roy's shirt? He must be still in shock from the loss....

By the way, with Kansas winning my brackets look a lot better too! First place in one contest and third in two others!

Sunday Recap

We had a pretty strong day at Evangel yesterday. Last week in our pastoral planning we decided to change up the order of service just a little bit. Really we just decided to do things a little different. I'm not sure anyone really noticed anyway! Crystal talked with me afterward and said that the service flowed so well she really didn't notice anything different. That's a good thing!

So here's the rundown: We started the morning with a medium tempo song and went right into communion. After communion my dad interviewed someone with an incredible testimony of healing in their body. That led us right into a time of praise and worship that went really well. My dad closed out the worship time with corporate prayer and then transitioned into the offering. I came up after the offering to continue the series "How to Be Rich."

Overall we had a great day. My dad led his Bible study last night.

I'm excited to see what God has in store for Evangel in the coming months!

Forgiven

It's over. I've let it go. As a Kansas fan, I forgive you Roy.

Final Four

Well tonight is the big game against North Carolina. I'm "praying" that Kansas can pull off the upset.

Here's what I was told by friends back in Carolina this past week. "The good thing is, if Kansas wins there is only one of you, but if UNC wins expect a lot of texts, phone calls and emails from all of us!"

Great, something to look forward to.

Father/Son Day

I have to give equal time to my son. Yesterday we had Father/Son day and it was great.

He got to pick the place we ate lunch: McDonald's. Did you expect anything else?
He got to pick out a new toy: Spider-Man. No surprises there.
He got to pick out some movies: Superman/Batman, Batman and Scooby-Doo and Arthur.

The only problem...I forgot to take pics. But nevertheless, it was a GREAT day.
